Lin Dong Fang (林東芳牛肉麵), Taipei

Warm soup noodle dishes are always on my mind when its cold out so what better time to post about Lin Dong Fang (林東芳牛肉麵) in Taipei. Late one evening during our visit, our friend Gary took Mimi and I to this well-known hole in the wall restaurant.

We arrived a bit before the clubbing crowd would swarm the place, but there was still a pretty sizable line along the street. Since we didn’t do any research on this particular spot, Mimi and I weren’t sure what to expect. The kitchen is wide open and visible from the street with a few storefronts that the restaurant has taken over surrounding it on either side. Definitely nothing glamorous there but we had come for the food, not the decor. In the end, I really enjoyed their medley of herbs which made the broth in the beef noodle soup quite tasty and soothing.

Huge stock pots with (from front to back) noodles, broth and possibly the signature hot sauce being made.

Our order arrived quickly after being seated. The noodles had a great texture and the beef was nice and tender. However, It is the herb filled broth that makes this particular beef noodle soup so unique and tasty.

A shot of their famous hot sauce paste. It was good with the soup and their tofu dish but I was expecting it to have a bit more kick.

Aside from the beef noodle soup, Lin Dong Fang is also known for this tofu. I thought it was pretty normal though
